School Site Council and English Language Advisory Committee

School Site Council (SSC) is made up of elected teachers, staff, administration and parents. SSC develops, approves and monitors both the School Plan for Student Achievement (Site Plan) and Crumpton's Safety Plan.
 

What is ELAC? ¿Qué es ELAC?


The English Learner Advisory Committee, ELAC, promotes a meaningful connection between parent/guardians of English learners (ELs) and school personnel. The main purpose is to create a forum for open, culturally responsive exchanges on topics important to parents and guardians of English learners and recently redesignated English proficient students. A functioning ELAC is required for any school site with 21 or more English Learners.


El Comité Asesor de Aprendices de Inglés, ELAC, promueve una conexión significativa entre los padres/tutores de los aprendices de inglés (EL) y el personal escolar. El objetivo principal es crear un foro para intercambios abiertos y culturalmente receptivos sobre temas importantes para los padres y tutores de los estudiantes de inglés, y recientemente redesignados estudiantes competentes en inglés. Se requiere un ELAC en funcionamiento para cualquier sitio escolar con 21 o más estudiantes aprendices de inglés.

 
In addition, DELAC (District English Learners Advisory Committee) meets four times a year. Representatives from each school's ELAC committee and administration meet to discuss services the district provides.

The ELAC shall be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Advising the principal and staff in the development of a site plan for English learners and submitting the plan to the School Site Council for consideration of inclusion in the School Plan for Student Achievement.
  • Assisting in the development of the schoolwide needs assessment.
  • Ways to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.
  • Each ELAC shall have the opportunity to elect at least one member to the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). Districts with 31 or more ELACs may use a system of proportional or regional representation.
